Brockville and Area YMCA
Philanthropy
Philanthropy
Philanthropy is fundamental to the YMCA of Brockville and Area. As an independent charitable, not for profit organization, we depend on volunteer time and/or financial support from our members, the community at large and the business community in Brockville and Area. Our Mission Statement directs us to be open to all, regardless of circumstance, including a lack of ability to pay full fees.
Through the generosity of our donors, the YMCA of Brockville and Area can provide financial assistance to those individuals and families who are willing but unable to afford full fees for programs and services available through their "Y". Yearly, approximately 967 individuals of all ages, including hundreds children and youth, have access to the Brockville and Area YMCA through our Financial Assistance program. No one, absolutely no one, is denied access to their YMCA of Brockville and Area due to the inability to pay.
At the YMCA of Brockville and Area, we believe that:
Building on these beliefs, our staff, volunteers, participants, and community partners are committed to ensuring that:
We adhere to the letter and spirit of all aspects of confidentiality laws.
Funds raised during our Annual Giving Campaigns are directed to our Financial Assistance program each year, which includes camperships that allow hundreds of children and youth to attend day camps and overnight camps during the school break in the summer months.
Our Annual Giving Campaigns are held during the months of May and June each year. Usually, 7 weeks are chosen as the ‘Campaign’ weeks. During that period of time, a most enthusiastic team of volunteers, seeks financial support throughout the community in order to achieve the goal set out for that specific year. If you would like to be a part of this volunteer team, or would like to make a donation to the campaign, you may contact
Sandra Devaney, Senior Director of Association Services at your YMCA of

Financial Assistance at the YMCA of Brockville and Area in 2011
Our Goal: To raise $150,000 to support Financial Assistance and camperships
The Need
In 2010, with support from our Financial Assistance program, 1,235 individuals accessed this YMCA's facilities and programs. They made the financial contribution they could afford - we subsidized the rest. In addition, we granted close to 550 weeks of camperships to children whose families cannot afford to pay full fees. Over $62,000 were allocated to camperships in 2010. Nearly $400,000 in assistance was granted to our communities by your YMCA.
Outlook for 2011
As we welcome our 5,000th. member early in the year, we can anticipate our numbers will continue to grow. Specifically, we expect the number of financially assisted individuals will rise to over 1,400 in 2011. Considering that
Our directive is clear - we must engage the community to help us support those who cannot afford to choose healthy lifestyles or day camps for their children. The benefits to the community are countless. Healthier adults and children contributing to the growth of the place they call home.

"In 2010, with support from our Financial Assistance program, 1,235 individuals accessed the YMCA of Brockville and Area's facilities and programs by making the financial contribution they could afford to make. In addition, over 550 weeks of campership were granted to families to ensure their children could have the day camp experience during the summer school break. A total of $69,000 was granted in camperships, and yet, our sources of support for camperships have diminished. The total value of our support to our communities neared $400,000 in 2010. We foresee the demand for our financial assistance to increase in 2011, and expect approximately 1,400 individuals to be in need of this support. Our effort to garner your support on behalf of these individuals and families is more important than ever in our past." |
