What do you have at the Brockville and Area YMCA?
We strongly recommend you visit our fantastic facilities! Through a tour, we will be able to discuss with you all the wonderful programs that we have to offer you and your family.
What do you have to offer members?
Our Memberships are inclusive. Once you purchase a membership, babysitting, most non-certification programs and classes are included in your membership. Examples of classes: are Step Classes, Cycling Classes and Aqua fit. Examples of Programs: are Swim Lessons, Karate, Art and Crafts.

What are the fees for memberships?
We have annual fees for all of our memberships. For all of our fees please see the fee section. All new members 18 yrs + (Adults and Seniors) or members returning after 90 days from cancellation are required to pay a Building Enhancement Fee.
How do you join the Brockville and Area YMCA?
What do you need to bring when you want to join?
*Note: The Brockville and Area YMCA implemented a new software program January 1, 2008. With this change you will have noticed some changes in our membership and childcare services. On January 1st, 2008 the Brockville and Area YMCA no longer accepted personal cheques on products and services.
Why do I have to pay the Building Enhancement Fee?
The Brockville and Area YMCA is a charity. Through generous donations, we are able to help those less fortunate through Assistance on Memberships, Camps and programs. We have a partnership with our dedicated volunteers to bring you quality programs and services. The Building Enhancement Fee helps maintain our building and equipment in 'as new' condition. The Building Enhancement Fee is paid once only, unless you let your membership lapse for longer than 90 days. For all of our fees please see the fee section.
Can I purchase a membership as a gift for someone else?
Yes. The same procedures apply as the section, "what to bring when you to join". We require the paperwork and payment information. We can start the membership on the date you specify. The Brockville and Area YMCA also has gift certificates. This gift certificate can be applied toward the cost of a membership.
What if I cannot afford the full fee?
Financial Assistance is available for those that cannot afford the full fee. The Brockville and Area YMCA teams up with the community at large to ensure that nobody is denied access to our facilities and programs. Our Annual Giving Campaign ensures that funds are raised to assist individuals and families who cannot afford advertised fees.
What do I need to do to find out if I can receive Assistance?
(Please Note: Renewals must be within 90 days of expiry date.)
What if my Insurance Company is paying for the membership?
Your insurance company will need to contact the Brockville and Area YMCA directly at 613-342-7961 extension 43.
Does the Brockville and Area YMCA have Corporate Memberships?
Yes. A Company that is interested in Corporate Memberships, will need to contact Sandra Devaney, Senior Director of Development and Communications, sdevaney@brockvilley.com . The terms for Corporate Memberships can be reviewed in our Corporate Wellness package.
When does my Membership Start?
Your Membership starts on the date you specify you want it to start.

Do I receive a membership card at the time of joining?
Yes. All members receive a membership card with their photo which they must show upon entering the facility. Please click to view our Building Access Policy effective November 2010.
Your Brockville and Area YMCA implemented a new software program on January 1, 2008. We will be taking your pictures for our photo ID scan cards.
Please note there will be a fee for lost cards of $10.00.
What do I wear?
Depending on your activity of choice, we recommend that you wear appropriate attire. T-shirts, shorts, sweat pants or exercise clothing and indoor running shoes are appropriate for gym wear. You will need your bathing suit if swimming is your choice. We ask all participants to remove their outdoor footwear in the lobby area, during inclement weather. Please do not wear jeans to work out in.
Can I work out right away?
Yes you can work out immediately. Once you purchase a membership you receive an orientation to the equipment and two personal training sessions "Y Connect". Please see the current 2012 Winter/Spring Brochure for more details. You may book these sessions when you join. You should remember to bring a towel and a lock for your day use. We rent towels and locks. We also have lock boxes at no charge in the main lobby.
What is the definition of a family and family members?
Our definition for two adult families is: Two legally related adults by marriage or common-law and their children living in the same household. Children are those who are living at home under the age 24 and full time in school. For all of our fees please see the fee section.
Do I have to pay the Family Membership Rate if my spouse does not come to the Brockville and Area YMCA?
Fortunately, we can offer you a single adult family rate. This category is for 1 adult and his/her children, who are living at home under the age 24 and full time in school. For all of our fees please see the fee section.
Can I change the way I pay for my Membership?
Yes. If changing bank accounts or Visa or Master Card, a new Void Cheque, or Visa or Master Card is required along with the completed Membership Forms. Cash & Interac are not accepted pre-authorized methods of payments.
What happens if I have a problem with a payment for my Membership?
The Brockville and Area YMCA notifies you of problems with your payment. You have 5 days to pay once notified of any outstanding balances. A service charge of $20.00 plus GST is applied for any outstanding balances. Payment should be received in the designated time period to avoid the cancellation of your membership.
When does my Membership end? Will I be notified?
Effective January 1,2008
Memberships on pre-authorized withdrawals have no end date and are automatically renewed, except for students 18 yrs. +. (Students 18 yrs + are required to show their student ID's or timetables.) The membership cards can be picked up at the Membership Desk.
The memberships that are paid in full are not automatically renewed. These members will receive a renewal notification approximately one month prior to the end of their Membership. Payment is required for the membership to continue.
Financially assisted memberships are not automatically renewed. A yearly meeting takes place to discuss financial circumstances.
Can I visit other YMCA's?
Yes, you may visit other YMCA's and YMCA-YWCA's in Canada with your Brockville and Area YMCA card. When members from other YMCA's visit the Brockville and Area YMCA, they are required to show their Membership Card and sign our visitors' book.
Can I bring in a guest?
All members receive 4 guest privileges with their Memberships. If you have a family membership each member of your family receive 4 guest privileges. Just register your guest when you arrive at the Membership Desk. We occasionally offer more guest privileges during the year. We notify our members via notices posted in the building.
If I join the Brockville and Area YMCA by myself, and then decide to change my category, can I add my spouse or children?
Yes. You may change your category at any time. If your spouse is joining you on your membership they will be required to pay their portion of the Building Enhancement Fee. If you have children 18-24 years, they must be full time students to be part of your membership. They are required to show valid Student ID or a timetable.
Can my children use the fitness equipment?
Yes. Youth ages 10-12 can take a program called AIM (Adolescents in Motion). This program is teaches youth the proper and safe use of some of the cardio and strength training equipment. Equipment that they can use is designated with a white sticker and a check mark. Once the course is completed, the participants will receive a gold shoe tag. Youth ages 13+ register for the machine orientation and personal training as "adults."
Can I do activities with my children?
Yes. We offer a variety of activities that you can do as a family. Together, you may go to Open Swims, participate in a Family Cycle Class, use the Cat Eye Game Bikes, challenge each other on the Dance, Dance Revolution Floor, play Squash or Tennis and use the big gym during the open gym to play different sports such as basketball or floor hockey. What can my children do when I am working out?
We have worked very hard to bring a variety of supervised activities that your children can do while you are active yourself. For example: depending on the age of the children, they can participate in Karate classes, Swim Lessons, AIM, Open Swims or use the Cat Eye Game Bikes, do the Dance, Dance Revolution Floor, play Squash or Tennis and use the big gym during the open gym to play different sports such as basketball. Preschoolers can participate in swim lessons gym or art classes or go to the Play Care (babysitting) room. Does the Brockville and Area YMCA have a "Lost & Found"?
We are not responsible for lost items; however, if valuables are found they will be kept for 30 days. Lost and Found Policy.
Can I rent a locker?
Lockers are avaialble at no charge for "day use" only. The YMCA is unable to take responsibility for personal belongings brought into the building. Click to view Lock/ Locker Policy.
